The Honduras Outreach Medical Brigada Relief Effort, HOMBRE, is a 501 ©3 status, non-profit organization. Since its inception in 2000, a group of first-year medical students from the Medical College of Virginia Campus at Virginia Commonwealth University have traveled nearly every year to Honduras to provide direct medical care as well as healthcare education to underserved, rural populations. For the last several years we have held clinics in 2 separate areas of Honduras, and our efforts expanded to include clinics in the Dominican Republic in 2009.

HOMBRE is committed to not only providing the best medical care for the people of Honduras and the Dominican Republic but to also provide education in global health medicine to the future doctors of the United States. We provide direct training for medical students and residents with faculty experienced in global health.

Since 2000 we have seen over 10,000 patients and have initiated a host of public health projects, including several water filter distribution projects. Scores of medical students (as well as other health professional students and residents) have been exposed to international medicine and our efforts now involve serving three separate geographically distinct areas as noted above.

We are always in need of Spanish language translators, physicians and donations! Please click on the links above for more information and consider getting involved.
